The Story
Dorothy James has been making pepper sauce in her backyard in St. John's for 35 years. What started as weekend batches for family and neighbors turned into something bigger when her son Carlton entered it in the 2018 Caribbean Food Festival — and won. Today, Dorothy still makes every bottle herself, by hand, with peppers from the same plot of land her grandmother farmed.
