Anatolian Hand-Woven Kilim Cushion

Woven on a 70-year-old loom in Konya

$120USD

Each cushion is hand-woven on a traditional flatweave loom in Konya, using hand-spun wool dyed with natural plant dyes — pomegranate rind for yellow, madder root for red, indigo for blue. The geometric patterns follow century-old tribal motifs from Central Anatolia. No two are identical. 45cm × 45cm with a cotton back and zipper closure. Comes with a removable feather-down inner cushion. The colors will soften beautifully with age.

The Story

Fatma Kaya is one of fewer than 50 weavers in Turkey still working in the traditional flatweave kilim style. She learned from her mother on the same loom that now sits in the corner of her home workshop in Konya. Each cushion takes 2-3 days to weave. Fatma says the patterns are a kind of language — each motif tells something about the weaver's family and village.
